Tips to maximise your battery life
Published: Aug 29, 2021It’s never fun to run out of battery in the middle of the day. Here are some things you can do to prolong battery life and protect battery health in the long run.
#1 Adjust screen brightness
Dimming your screen saves battery. You can adjust screen brightness both manually and automatically.
Manual
Android: Swipe down twice from the top of your screen to access Quick Settings. Drag the slider to your desired brightness.
iOS: Go to Settings > Display & Brightness. Drag the slider to your desired brightness.
Automatic
Android: Tap Settings > Display > Adaptive Brightness to turn it on. Screen brightness will automatically adjust to your environment.
iOS: Go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Display Accommodations. Toggle on the switch next to Auto-Brightness.
#2 Turn on dark mode
Dark Mode helps save battery. System-wide dark mode is only available in iOS 13 and Android 10 (and above).
Android: Swipe down twice from the top of your screen to access Quick Settings. Tap Dark theme.
iOS: Go to Settings > Display & Brightness. Under Appearance, select Dark.
#3 Avoid a full charge
A full charge cycle is where you charge your battery to 100% from 0%. Full charge cycles degrade battery capacity, so try to keep your battery in the 20-80% range.
#4 Turn off location access
Using GPS drains batteries. Adjust which apps can access location to save some battery life.
Android: Go to Settings > Locations > App permission. Tap an app that you don’t want using your location. Choose Deny to turn off location access for the app.
iOS: Go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services. Tap an app that you don’t want using your location. Choose Never to turn off location access for the app.
#5 Avoid overheating
Heat is terrible for battery health. Don’t cover your phone when charging or leave your phone in direct sunlight.
