Design and Display
Standing at 146mm tall, the Galaxy S22, which features a 6.1” display will be Samsung’s smallest phone in the S22 lineup. The phone’s Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with 120 Hz maximum refresh rate, FHD+ resolution, and 1,300 nits of brightness come together to offer vibrant and punchy colours.
Samsung Galaxy S22 looks similar to its predecessor, sporting slim bezels, rounded corners, a camera housing that wraps around the frame, and a punch-hole front camera. One minor difference is that the phone's back is now made of glass rather than plastic, giving it a more premium feel in the hand.
Camera
The Galaxy S22 will see a 50 MP main camera, 12 MP ultra-wide, and a 10 MP telephoto with 30x Space Zoom that offers 3 x optical magnification. Like its predecessor, the S22’s selfie camera remains at 10 MP.
The phone will also be able to capture 8K super HDR videos that will further be enhanced with Samsung’s latest image stabilization technology.
Battery
The Galaxy S22 comes packed with a 3,700 mAh battery—smaller than last year’s 4,000 mAh battery. For a quick boost, the phone supports 25W fast charging, which should take you from zero to 100% in about 70 minutes. There’s also wireless and reverse wireless powering.
Unfortunately, chargers will be sold separately as the phone only ships with a USB C-to-C cable and a SIM card ejector.
Value for Money
The Galaxy S22 is a great phone - with an excellent display, stylish design, and great cameras. But for a phone that sees few upgrades over its predecessors, it might be difficult to justify the Galaxy S22’s price tag of AU$1,249. Unless you’re looking specifically for a newly launched Samsung phone with a smaller form factor, there may be better options out there.
